Default 980 SC Modification: possibly add EPower V

I purchased a bad card off of eBay as a donor card for practice. It has missing components behind the VRM, and I am wondering if it would be a good card to tear apart and install an EPower V onto. I just want to get used to doing the modifications before moving onto a much more expensive card.

Also, if you think it will work, can someone point out a trustworthy soldering station that I could pick up. I can borrow one from work, but we don't really buy things because they are good, we usually buy them because they are "cheap".
